Description
Noctilucent clouds can be seen around mid-summer low in the north western sky, between altitudes of 50-70 degrees. They are the highest clouds located 40-50 miles in the atmosphere. They’re best seen when the sun is illuminating them from 5-15 degrees below the horizon, while the rest of the atmosphere is in the Earth’s shadow; hence seeing them in the summer.

I was just browsing your gallery checking out some of the things I've missed and I almost died when I saw the title. After taking a meteorology course I learned about optical phenomena in the sky and I've been on the lookout for these ever since!!
I'm so happy you got a picture of 'em! They're simply gorgeous!! I really enjoy the fact that int he photograph the sky is so large and blue, while the city lights are tiny and red... such a wonderful contrast.
